British Spirals & Castings has earned an enviable reputation for producing high quality spiral stairs, straight staircases, balconies, gates and railings at competitive prices. Our recognised service levels attract customers from all round the world and our family ethos ensures a pleasant experience from start to finish.
We also specialise in the manufacture of bespoke made to measure products including gates, railings and security grilles, and the manufacture and supply of cast iron and cast aluminium gratings, balusters and engineered castings. The range is wide and varied. We will build for you whatever you want, whenever, for installation wherever. We’re contributing to inspirational renovations, innovative refits and exclusive new builds.
Being a truly British manufacturer, we have total control over the quality of the castings, as we own our own non-ferrous foundry and with our full pattern making facilities are able to take on commissioned design work. From raw materials to finished product all our staircase, balconies, railings, gates and security grilles are manufactured here in the UK.
Where it all began…
The story goes back to a man who wanted a spiral staircase for a barn conversion. He could not find anything on the market that was right, so he designed it himself and had it made up at a local foundry.
It was an excellent piece of work. When others saw it, they wanted one for themselves, and before too long Richard Harding had the vision and drive to turn these one off projects into a thriving business – Cottage Craft Spirals.
To meet the specific demands of a core market Richard went on to found Tilleys London Castings, supplying London style cast stairs, railings and gates, as well as carrying out bespoke restorations of stair balustrades from a showroom in London.
Milton Aluminium Castings, a foundry in the West Midlands, was acquired in 2009. This ensured that the products would continue to be British made and quality controlled from start to finish.
In 2014 Richard drew together these three trading divisions of Harding Sales Ltd to create one new all-encompassing brand known as ‘British Spirals & Castings’. Truly a family business, Richard’s son Ben now work as part of the management team.
We are proud to be the largest manufacturer of bespoke cast spiral, straight and balconies in Europe. We offer the largest range of designs and diameters ensuring that we can provide a solution to meet your requirements. As evidence of our commitment to ensuring that our products are of the highest quality, we have been awarded CE accreditation, under European Legislation, which provides assurance to the client that our manufacturing process is to the highest standards. Sustainability
Protecting the environment is important to us in our work. The aluminium we use when making cast spiral stairs is recycled and refined to British Standards specifications and all our wooden staircases are made using sustainable, kiln dried timbers. For every set of timber stairs that we build, we plant five new trees on the family farm.
The Team
British Spirals & Castings continues as a family run business, and has a dedicated team of 19 staff over 3 sites; with a range of skills and experience that cannot be rivalled. Many of our staff have been with us since leaving school and British Spirals and Castings run an apprentice programme to help support local employment and work closely with local community schools in providing invaluable work experience.
With a CE accreditation under European legislation and our fantastic specialists who also offer advice on Building Regulations, design ideas and layout services, we are the market leaders in the industry.
Expertise
You can rely on our specialist advice relating to all aspects of Building Regulations and we offer design ideas and layout services. Our bespoke CAD system allows us to provide dimensional drawing for all our clients and for our fabricators. We have a wealth of knowledge about staircases and balconies, and will be able to answer any questions relating to your project.
