One of our latest exterior spiral staircases<\/a> is providing a stunning new feature for a restored 15th Century farmhouse in the South of France.<\/p>\n

Mas Pallar\u00e8s nestles\u00a0amidst the vines and cherry orchards of the Reynes Valley at the foot of the Pyrenees Mountains.\u00a0Owner, Elizabeth Price, has\u00a0converted the property\u00a0into apartments for holidaymakers\u00a0. As part of a recent refurbishment, Elizabeth wanted to add stair access from the balcony of the first floor apartments to the main terrace and gardens below.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe staircase had to be impressive as it is a key feature of the house and contributes\u00a0to the\u00a0experience of the guests.\u201d Elizabeth explained. \u201cAfter a long and time-consuming search in France, Spain and Eastern Europe, I came across the British Spirals & Castings website. I was immediately struck by the quality of their products. The staircases included by far the best and most attractive traditional designs.\u201d<\/p>\n

Elizabeth chose a Victorian Combination staircase<\/a>\u00a0in black –\u00a0a typical design for the 19th\u00a0Century. \u00a0The cast aluminium staircase features three balusters per tread. It\u00a0was cast at our traditional foundry in Stoke-on-Trent<\/a> and is far lighter than cast iron alternatives whilst still maintaining the same strength. This lightweight design can help to reduce logistical costs on overseas orders.<\/p>\n

Richard Harding, Managing Director of British Spirals & Castings, reflected:<\/p>\n

\u201cAs the staircase had to come down to meet a very specific patch of the main terrace, our bespoke combination staircase was the perfect solution. In addition to allowing\u00a0level changes\u00a0in a limited space, when used externally, Cast Aluminium staircases only need a solid footing to fix to which means the extensive concrete foundations that Cast Iron staircases often require aren\u2019t needed. This minimises disruption to the existing surrounding; a definite benefit in such an idyllic location.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI cannot speak highly enough about the whole transaction,\u201d Elizabeth concluded. \u201cThe company\u2019s designs were the best I have seen anywhere on similar projects.\u00a0\u00a0 The family running British Spirals & Castings were a dream to work with and the fact that help was so readily available made the whole thing an enjoyable experience.\u00a0\u00a0 I am delighted with the staircase; it was fitted without an issue and has become a bit of an attraction with local residents.\u201d<\/p>\n
